Overview
Spectrum is a card-based party game I designed and developed, inspired by the idea of turning casual discussions into structured, winnable gameplay. The game challenges players to think creatively, debate with one another, and strategically place their guesses along a spectrum of possibilities.
What began as a simple iPhone note with friends’ ideas evolved into a fully playable product, complete with custom-designed cards, packaging, rules, and bespoke game pieces.

Game Concept
At the core of Spectrum is the idea of a spectrum ranging from one extreme to another — such as “Small / Big” or “Bad Movie / Good Movie.”
A Leader secretly chooses a number between 1–13 on the spectrum.
They think of a word or scenario that fits that position.
Other players debate and place their guesses along the spectrum, aiming to get as close as possible to the hidden number.
Points are awarded based on accuracy.
The game includes three distinct modes of play:
Classic Mode – Competitive scoring with the board and pieces.
Discussion Mode – A light, casual version for creative conversations.
Debate Mode – A twist where the Leader decides which argument is most convincing.

Design Development
Cards: 48 category cards (generic and scenario-based), blank cards for customisation, and mode-specific rules cards.
Game Board: Split across 3 cards for compact storage, forming the full 1–13 spectrum.
Score Cards: Customisable tally trackers with erasable finish and included dry-wipe pen.
Playing Pieces: Inspired by the colour wave of the visible light spectrum, each piece is a unique colour and part of a continuous design.
Box Packaging: A custom-designed easy-flip box, featuring a rainbow wave graphic that ties the identity together. The inside of the lid includes quick-start rules, with full rules and credits on the packaging base.
Final Outcome
The result is a complete, boxed card game that feels commercial and cohesive — from the visual identity to the physical interaction of the components. Spectrum blends playful aesthetics with smart, strategic gameplay, designed for 2–6 players and adaptable for both casual and competitive groups.

Reflection
This project allowed me to bring together skills in graphic design, product design, and user experience while balancing fun mechanics with clear, accessible visuals. It’s a project that grew from a simple idea shared with friends into a tangible, fully designed product that could sit proudly on a store shelf.
